Space Weather!
or Take Cover! The Sun's Getting Stormy!
Presented by
J. Brent Parham, MIT Lincoln Laboratory
Did you know there is weather in space? The sun impacts us in more ways than just providing light, it spews plasma and radiation that splatters against our home on Earth. Luckily, we are mostly protected by Earth's magnetic field, but sometimes plasma leaks through causing problems with satellites, communications, and electrical grids, and if you're floating in a space station, you'd better watch out!
In this Science on Saturday show, we'll dive into what happens when the sun roils sends plasma our way, and what coronal mass ejections are and why NOAA tracks them in addition to all other kinds of weather.
We are now offering Science on Saturday demonstrations in a virtual format, so there's no need to register! Tune in to join the fun!
