Aviation brings the world closer together: commercial airlines help people travel the world;  NOAA, NASA, and the Air Force use aircraft to make observations about the world around us; and FEMA uses aircraft to assist in disaster relief efforts. Several technologies used for these purposes trace their heritage to MIT and Lincoln Laboratory.  We’ll talk about this history and how the Laboratory uses (and modifies) aircraft today to enable research into tomorrow’s technologies.

The Autonomous Systems Development Facility (ASDF) at Lincoln Laboratory enables the rapid development and testing of autonomous systems for unmanned air, ground, and maritime efforts. We'll peek behind the scenes to see a few unique features of the facility. We will discuss how Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAVs, or drones) are used for wildlife conservation, rapid medical response, safety inspections, sports, and cinematography, and how we might use UAVs in the future!
